Underpainting Approach to OSL

Geoff Davis

Basic Painting

Friday, March 5 2021

15:00 - 17:00

We will use a simple miniature as a demonstration and practice model to look at an underpainting approach to object source lighting or OSL. I will demonstrate how to plan the lighting and shadows on a miniature from a foundational approach. I will demonstrate how to place the shadows first as a method of defining the light from the source object. We will use layering as an approach so layering as a concept will be taught as part of this class. Time is included for questions and practice.
Prep:
Your miniature should be washed and prepared for painting. It does not need to be primed. If your figure is grey Bones material, it will be helpful to have your miniature painted completely white as seen below. Do not prime your figure black or do a zenithal prime. The figure must be plain white.
