Painting Showcase
I went into this paint job being inspired by Disney wizards.
Who doesn't like Disney?
The wiz
Scott Allen
3D printed plague dr bust from TytanTroll Miniatures.
Painted by Darcy Dirks using P3, Vallejo, Monument and Reaper paints. Zenithal primed, painted with brush only.
Eyes are painted to reflect a burning church/graveyard scene.
2020 Plague Dr
Darcy Dirks
My first attempt at knot work freehand. Amusingly, I hate knot work in my 2D work and usually just curse at it a lot. Why not try it on a cape to make it harder, I said.
Frost giant queen
Lana Tessler
Deenah was painted for a fellow roller derby official. The tournament we were to work together in was cancelled last year. We remained friends and recently did an art exchange. Deenah was painted by hand with a variety of techniques.
Deenah, Female Barbarian
Frenchie of Deer Heart Art
I used this model for a hair class and then again for a blending class during Reapercon 2020. Since it was mostly painted I decided to finish it. It was cast in bones and it had some issues with the staff so I used some milliput to fix those parts. My goal was to get good blends on the dress and skin as well as practice facial expression painting.
Sara the Seeress
Cory Allen
I used these models for skin painting practice. I painted them for use as the active NPC counterparts for my Tree of Despair diorama from last Reapercon.
Barbarian Duo
Cory Allen
I painted Nathavarr in my "Elmore" style. I was influenced by Larry Elmore's artwork staring me in the face daily growing up from his many Dragon Lance cover pieces. Mostly Reaper paints, with cameos by Army Painter Quick Shades in the shadows.
Nathavarr

2020 saw me rediscover the joy of miniature painting after over a decade away from the hobby. This is one of my favourite miniatures 'The Great Worm' (SKU 77006) by Reaper.
The Great Worm
Dan Singleton
I really liked this sculpt (Lizardman Tyrant by Reaper SKU: 02404), it was a joy to paint. It was my first attempt at incorporating water into a base.
Lizardman Tyrant
Dan Singleton
2020 saw me rediscover miniature painting after over a decade away from the hobby, and this was one of the very first miniatures I painted upon my return 'Captain Razig by Reaper (SKU: 02437). I wanted to see if I could pull off an aged and distressed look.
Captain Razig
Dan Singleton
During lockdown I had a go at building a Hobbit Hole, and needed some miniatures to go with it. Reapers Halfling Farmers (SKU: 03729) were just what I needed, I painted them up and repurposed them as Halfling Gardeners.
Female Halfling Farmer
Dan Singleton
This is the male from the Halfling Farmer's set (SKU: 03729) which I'd repurposed as a Halfling Gardener for my hobbit hole build. I was quite pleased with how the face turned out on this one, I'd just started experimenting with glazes.
Male Halfling Farmer
Dan Singleton
This is the Stag Lord (SKU: 60073), one of the antagonists from the Pathfinder RPG, whom I picked after playing and becoming obsessed with Pathfinder: Kingmaker. I had built a small ruined keep over the lockdown and without giving away any major Pathfinder spoilers, the Stag Lord just seemed like the ideal miniature to showcase on it. Overall I really enjoyed painting him, he was great skintone practice!

Snake Warrior
Lee Johnson
The base and body were stained with clear alcohol inks. Light can shine through these parts, as pictured. The wings were drawn on the backside with markers, then painted white, and finally splashed with the inks used on the body, thus creating two patterns on the wings:one on top of the paint on the outside, and one seen through the transparent wings from the back to the inside. Based on reverse glass painting seen in some traditional Christmas ornaments.
Semi-visible Kyphrixis
Ejala
Based on the colors of the aurora borealis, the wings were done in semi-controlled freestyle splatter using Ranger Pearlescent Alcohol inks. The body is primarily multiple layerings of regular clear alcohol inks and Liquidex Iridescent medium. Ranger brand inks will bleed through some paler acrylics, and I used this property to add depth to the piece. Finishing touches on the body and head were done with metallic paints and wax. The base is inks over silver paint with ink-dyed moss and Prima texture pastes.
Aurora Argent
Ejala
Model based on Medeé by Alphonse Mucha.

Medea is a classical example of the epitome of madness and spite. To seek revenge on her husband for leaving her behind, Medea killed their children. She then fled on a flying chariot when Jason confronted her because she could not face the horror of what she had done.
Madness
Amy Gillespie
An exercise in capillary action and ink. A Wizkids' metallic dragon, forget which metal. The wings have a ridged texture running from shoulder to edge, which worked to wick the inks along in an orderly fashion, while still allowing them to blend at the boundaries. Other pride flag colors added to body with metallic paint.
Proud dragon
Ejala
I painted this for a competition at my local gameshop and it won the prize for the beginner category. It was decided by the stores staff and I couldn't have been more excited! I had only started painting a couple months before this contest which took place in July 2020. I went with a Steampunk theme and opted for a patchwork leather look for the wings (featuring Reaper Paints Colors). I picked up miniature painting while Covid quarantine was happening as a way to help me relax from my essential retail job.
Clockwork Dragon
Candy Cantrell
One of my favorite scenes from the original Jurassic Park movie was all I could think of when I saw the bones 4 expansion showing these raptors... so I finally got a round to doing it thanks to the Reaper Challenge League.
Clever Girl
Jesse Salazar
First miniature learning how to airbrushing other than primer... kept on going and finished for my Brother as a birthday present. His D&D group is gonna hate it...
Rauthuros
Jesse Salazar
Genie/Marid noblewoman
The Contessa
Aaron Froke
Painted by hand for one of my dearest friends. She chose the color scheme. I thought the colors lent themselves well to a vampire-like character.
Small World Monique
Frenchie of Deer Heart Art
This 3D printed mini arrived broken beyond repair. I didn’t want to waste it, so I turned it into a statue, based on a character in one of my favorite novels.
Veritas in Stone
Frenchie of Deer Heart Art
The dress of the Fungal Queen was inspired by the turkey foot fungus my daughter and I saw while on a hike in the mountains. Painted by hand; the remaining colors are a tribute to Mardi Gras and the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Fungal Queen
Frenchie of Deer Heart Art
Focused on wet blending to make the fabric transitions smooth and tried some subtle highlights to make the black feathers of the Kenku stand out versus just being flat black.

A super fun sculpt that was even more fun to paint!
Dragon Skull Hermit Crab
On The Road To Tiamat (Margaret)
A fun sculpt that I used to practice painting armor
Agathion
On The Road To Tiamat (Margaret)
Such a fun dragon to paint with all her armor! Did my best attempt at the shaded metallics with her
The Gilded Dragon
On The Road To Tiamat (Margaret)
A fun take for a quarterly contest. My first time doing something outside of the box!
Avatar of Rage
On The Road To Tiamat (Margaret)
The figurehead is actually a trapped water elemental that is forced to help guide the ship through the roughest of seas.
Dark Maiden
TolexCat
One of my favorite pathfinder sculpts. I used her to break my habit of always reaching for a new color of paint for every little detail
Visbaronetess Delour Aulamaxa
On The Road To Tiamat (Margaret)
My player character for a game that we were running. For once the character didn't die in game once I finished the mini!
Tobias Haimirich Gosfridus-Dave
On The Road To Tiamat (Margaret)
Blue Monochrome challenge. Only colors used were Ultramarine Blue, Pure Black and Pure White. Used blue in everything in some capacity.

I live with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a condition that causes me to randomly dislocate joints, requiring me to need mobility aids at times. Representation matters, and sharing this mini means a lot to me. It can be hard to paint with fingers that dislocate, but painting helps with both the physical and emotional pain of my condition.
Elf Rogue in Combat Wheelchair
Frenchie of Deer Heart Art
Baba Yaga's Hut
Elisha Jones
One of my favorite Reaper models. This was an absolute blast to paint! Used every trick in my arsenal to complete this model, including at least 50 different colors of paint (mostly Reaper). I even crafted the vines out of floral wire, spray adhesive, and tiny railroad scenery leaves.

The dynamic pose of this wizard was so fun to paint but I couldn't help but see Jason Wiebe's face peeking out from under that hat.
Is that smoke normal?
jedijared
Going for extreme lighting was a really fun challenge but the real star is that little from familiar that is peaking out and barely illuminated.
A light in darkness

This was my second attempt at full NMM armor. It was really fun to contrast the plate with the gold fabric and blue-grey steel sword.
Another shiny guy

This lumbering behemoth has just awoken and dusted off the dried leaves in order to head off to defend his woods. Still one little stowaway remains perched in her nest and will get a great view of the action.

When traveling by owl, the luck of the Irish may be the only way you can survive. I guess it's worth the risk as those owl eyes can easily spot the shinies you seek!

This is the Angel of Shadows. The base is DIY and is made from house hold objects and green stuff putty as well as ground cover from dried herbal tea.
I tried to keep the colors dark and subdued. I also included OSL from the lantern.
Angel of Shadow
Paul E. Wardle Jr.
This was such a fun project. I worked really hard on the hair and facial hair and am proud of how it turned out.
Axehelm the Dwarf
Paul E. Wardle Jr.
Another really fun project. Stone texture and veining as well as the rust and ware on the gates were the challenge of this miniature, a lot of experimentation but I feel it ended up looking great.
Graveyard Golem

I decided I wanted to build a Ginger Bearded Dwarven Clan. As soon as I saw this model I just had to get and paint and be the first in the Clan..

This sculpt was great. I took my time getting the face to emulate that look you see Gorillas do when staring at the camera. Took the eyes to a human way rather than just dark brown to emphasise the non gorilla look about him
You looking at me ?????

This Diorama was inspired by the Sphinx like creature. The victim who didn't answer the riddle is a Rraper Battle Marker. The base was made using cork bark. Foam. Sculpty and sand. The Cacti are artificial....

I painted this after being inspired by James Gurney's works and putting some of his instruction to work for me. While I'm very new to painting and the rabbit hole of miniatures, I really enjoyed this process and have since begun my obsession in this art. I especially enjoyed the vibrancy I was able to achieve in these warm tones emulating a setting sun peeking over a distance obstruction. I also found basing in this model and was found an interesting lichen I incorporated from my own yard.
